Park Lawn GO

The Humber Bay Shores area has approximately 30,000 residents and it is clear to everyone living and working in this community that we need a Park Lawn GO station. To date we have seen very little progress towards the realization of this vital infrastructure project.

What caused this situation is simple. In late 2018 the Ministry of Transportation directed Metrolinx to stop procurement of new GO stations. This meant that the Ontario government was getting out of the business of financing much needed new GO transit infrastructure. Instead it was claimed that a “new market-driven strategy” would deliver new stations. In other words, the private sector would take care of the problem for us. As everyone is our community knows, this has not happened.

Due to the Ontario government’s shift in GO transit policy there are now many stakeholders involved with the Park Lawn GO Station. Much of the conversation around this project involves explanations as to why someone else is to blame for the lack of progress. But explanations are not good enough- we need results. Below you can read some of the actions MPP Fairclough has taken to drive this project forwards.

Mimico

Mimico GO station is one of very few stations not yet accessible to all under the Accessibilities for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Lack of accessibility impacts residents with mobility challenges, but also those with items such as strollers. Helping to ensure that these types of improvements are promptly implemented is incredibly important to members of our community. I greatly appreciate all residents who have supported, and continue to support, my efforts in this area. Below you can read more about some of the recent initiatives MPP Fairclough has undertaken, as well as what to expect in the future.

May 2025

Question Period

It was originally promised that Mimico GO would be fully accessible by 2023. As such, at Queen’s Park MPP Fairclough directly asked the Minister of Transportation when construction at Mimico GO will begin.

May 2025

Petition

In conjunction with the Mimico Resident’s Association MPP Fairclough launched a day of action around Mimico GO. They gathered approximately 1,000 signatures in a single day. The next day MPP Fairclough tabled the petition in the legislature, as well as speaking on the need for swift progress.

November 2025

The Ministry Replies

The Ministry of Transportation formally replied to MPP Fairclough’s petition, but declined to provide any new updates on progress or timelines. She immediately responded with a formal letter urger the Minister to ensure that we will see meaningful upgrades and rapid construction timelines.

February 2026

Meetings with Metrolinx

After MPP Fairclough’s last meeting with Metrolinx we were assured that Metrolinx would be making a substantive announcement to the community in May of 2026. It is our understanding that this announcement will include detailed renderings of the long anticipated station upgrades.

Long Branch

Accessibility upgrades on the station are proceeding swiftly, and it is my understanding that the project remains on schedule and budget. My team and I have worked diligently to address resident concerns with Metrolinx whenever they have been brought to our attention. We will continue to monitor and support the project wherever possible.
